Despite parents’ best efforts, many babies develop skin rashes during their first year of life. While rashes usually indicate that something is wrong, most baby skin rashes aren’t serious and can be remedied by simple solutions. Here are 6 of the most common types of baby skin rashes:
If your baby has white/red bumps on his forehead or cheeks, chances are they have baby acne. Although baby acne usually disappears on its own, you can wash your baby’s face daily with water and mild soap to help minimize symptoms.
Cradle cap is a skin condition where scaly, greasy patches develop on your baby’s scalp. You can alleviate this condition by placing a few drops of mineral oil on your baby's scalp, then gently wash your baby’s scalp with baby shampoo and water.
Many babies develop skin irritation around their bottom, genitals, and thighs. These red, raised bumps will go away with proper diaper changes and plenty of air to the affected area. You can also apply diaper rash cream to provide extra protection.
Eczema looks like dry, itchy, scaly skin and can occur on various parts of your baby’s body. Although most babies eventually outgrow eczema, the sight of red patches is often very stressful for parents. Luckily, there are several great natural remedies for eczema.
Babies can overheat if exposed to the sun for too long or dressed inappropriately for hot weather. When they overheat, babies can develop itchy, raised red spots called heat rashes. Heat rash usually goes away with time, but you should try to keep your baby cool and dry to avoid further irritation.
Many babies are born with tiny white bumps on their cheeks, noses, and chins. These small bumps are a skin rash known as milia. Although these bumps may look painful or irritating, they should disappear with minimal complications within a few weeks.
Although it's hard to prevent baby rashes, you can take some simple steps to keep your baby’s skin clean and clear. That’s why The Wee Bean created all-natural products using organic cotton and bamboo to help parents with these stressful situations.
