When it comes to caring for your baby’s swaddle blanket, washing it the right way is key! For this reason, here are some swaddle blanket instructions for both machine and handwashing.

Washing A Muslin Swaddle Blanket

Organic cotton and bamboo blankets feel naturally soft, are very durable — and they get even softer with every wash! Organic swaddle blankets, like our Sweet Dreams Organic Bamboo Blend Swaddle, are super soft and gentle on the skin. These blankets are extremely breathable, but also delicate on your baby’s sensitive skin — which make them ideal for any newborn.

To wash your swaddle blanket in the washing machine:

  1. If your blanket has zippers or snaps, zip and fasten them before placing them into the washing machine to avoid unwanted snagging.
  2. Set your washing machine to a normal cycle.
  3. Select “cold” for colors or “warm/hot” for whites.
  4. Use the same washing detergent you use for your baby’s clothing and start the load.
  5. Once the machine finishes, move the swaddle promptly from the washer to the dryer and tumble dry low.

To handwash your swaddle blanket:

  1. Fill your washing basin with warm water, then add 0.5 fl. oz. of detergent.
  2. Use your hands to gently agitate your swaddle blanket.
  3. Let your swaddle blanket soak for one hour.
  4. Run your blanket under cool water until you no longer see soap in the rinse water.
  5. Ring out the blanket thoroughly, then hang to dry or tumble dry on low.

If you need to pre-treat your blanket due to stains, mix some chlorine-free bleach and water, then apply the pasty substance by gently rubbing it into the stain.

Other Considerations

Swaddle blankets are delicate, as is your baby’s skin. For this reason, you may want to keep the following tips in mind before you wash your baby’s swaddle blanket:

  • It’s best to wash most swaddle blankets with a gentle liquid detergent that contains no brighteners or optical softeners.
  • Because your baby’s skin is extremely sensitive, you may also want to avoid detergents with fragrances or chemicals.

Swaddle blankets require a bit of extra care, but following these directions should help you keep them soft and long-lasting. When in doubt, look at your swaddle blanket instructions for washing and other care instructions.
