Our October Bean of the Month is from British Columbia, but as you'll see from our interview, he's got roots from all over the world! Baby Nicolas Mateo Surlaya (or Nico for short) is 3.5 months old and pretty much guaranteed to be a global citizen!  Just judging mommy and daddy's cultural roots, we're sure that Nico is going to get a taste of many different cultural cuisines as he grows up! Thank you to Mama Misha Anne for sharing all your motherhood tips and these adorable photos of Baby Nico! Read on to find out more about this diverse family...

TWB: Can you give us a brief intro about your family and where you are from?
@mishianne My husband, David and I are originally from Ontario, but currently live in British Columbia, Canada. Nico is a mix of Chinese-Indonesian-Filipino-French-Canadian, so raising him is definitely going to be an interesting journey as we want him to be appreciative of his cultural roots.

TWB: What The Wee Bean items did you buy/get gifted and how do you like our products?
@ mishianne We love all our The Wee Bean products, most especially the Taste of HK collection because it reminds me of the years I spent growing up in HK!! The bibs are by far the best quality we've found so far; the muslin swaddles are perfect for Nico because they're lightweight (he runs hot most of the time!); It's started to get cold here lately, so we've been using the cha chaan teng fleecy blanket a lot lately (it's so snuggly and warm!).

TWB
: What items do you recommend for first-time moms?
@ mishianne For mama: anything comfortable, especially when it comes to under garments and nursing bras. Your body goes through enough giving birth, do not skimp on comfort! Also, a Haakaa pump to use on one side while nursing on the other... You're going to need to find ways to be more efficient at everything in order to make time for yourself!
For baby: swaddles/wraps to help baby sleep better, a lounger, a good quality carrier if you plan to do work around the house or for taking baby on outings inaccessible to strollers.

TWB: What's your favourite activity to do with your baby?
@ mishianne:  Dressing him up for photos. He's always been a smiley baby and recently started giggling too, so it's always a fun time trying to catch those smiles!

TWB: Best baby-friendly places to go to in your city?
@ mishianne Any parks or walks along the waterfront. We love being outdoors and can't wait until Nico's old enough to go on hikes with us! David and I also love visiting our local breweries for both food and drinks, and surprisingly, some of them are more baby-friendly than ordinary restaurants in the city.

TWB What's one tip you have for all the new mommies/daddies out there?
@ mishianne:  Don't be so hard on yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help. It is challenging, overwhelming, exhausting, and never-ending, but that's ok, because the moment you see those little smiles, it all becomes worth it. Just be in the moment and enjoy every second of it, even the hard times. They grow up so fast, so the last thing you want to do is have any regrets! :)
