For your infant, eczema may be a very frustrating condition. It can cause discomfort in your baby and often leads to scratching, which makes the problem worse. For this reason, a lot of parents are looking for natural treatments for their children's eczema. While there isn't a single treatment that works for everyone, some therapies have been proven to be successful in easing the symptoms of this skin condition. Here are five tried-and-true techniques that have been successful with a lot of babies:
Bathing is a great way to help clear your baby's eczema. It removes dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause irritation. Plus, it keeps them clean so they don't spread harmful bacteria to others or themselves!
Bathe your child at least once a day in warm (not hot) water using a moderate cleanser free of perfumes or colors.
Use plain water instead of bubble baths because the bubbles will dry up their delicate skin even more.
Lotions and oils shouldn't be used in the bathwater because they can aggravate eczema.
Your baby's skin may become irritated by soap, which is a harsh cleanser. Avoid using soap on your baby unless absolutely necessary, and if you must, make sure it's a gentle kind.
After each bath, moisturize with a non-soap lotion or cream rather than using soap. To keep your baby's skin moisturized and stop dryness from worsening the problem, you should apply moisture to his or her skin every day, even if they don't have any eczema symptoms.
There are many different types of moisturizers on the market, so talk to your doctor about which ones are best for your infant. Make sure any of these items you use are hypoallergenic and fragrance-free to help prevent skin irritations that can worsen eczema symptoms. If your baby has a mild case of eczema, these procedures should be sufficient to manage their symptoms without the need for extra medications or therapies because the idea is to maintain moisture in the skin so that it may cure itself more effectively (although some doctors may recommend an over-the-counter antihistamine).
It's important to keep an eye out for allergies if your child has eczema. Children who have allergies may develop skin rashes and other unpleasant symptoms. Among the most prevalent allergies are:
Pets (cats and dogs)
Dust mites (tiny arachnids that live in your pillows and carpets)
Chemicals in detergents
Detergent is one of the most common causes of eczema flare-ups, so you may want to switch to a detergent that is free of perfumes and dyes. Many parents find that using a fragrance-free laundry detergent helps their baby’s skin. If you’re using a product with fragrances or dyes, try switching to an herbal or plant based laundry soap.
When your infant overheats, sweat is trapped on their skin, which frequently results in eczema. Use breathable clothing and items to address this problem so that heat can escape and moisture can evaporate. This is exactly what the organic swaddles and onesies from The Wee Bean do, helping to prevent eczema before it starts.
Unfortunately, some babies will be born with eczema. There's no way to know for sure if your baby has it until he or she starts to develop symptoms. The good news is that there are several home remedies for baby eczema that can help reduce the severity of their symptoms and make them more comfortable in their own skin.
While these remedies aren't guaranteed to work for everyone, they're a good place to start if you're looking for treatment options to help your baby with his or her condition. If you're still having problems after trying these treatments, it's time to see a doctor about getting an official diagnosis so that you can get proper treatment plans in the future!
