Eczema is a common skin problem for many babies. Although your baby’s eczema will probably subside as they grow older, it can be very frustrating and difficult to deal with during their infancy. Luckily, these seven natural remedies can help you keep your baby’s eczema under control and provide your child with relief.

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great remedy for your baby’s eczema because it naturally moisturizes their skin. Coconut oil can also ease any swelling and redness that occurs and even prevent bacteria growth on your baby’s skin.

Be sure to use a brand of coconut oil that is all natural and contains no added chemicals. To apply coconut oil to your baby’s eczema, simply soften the oil a bit, then apply it just like any other moisturizer.

2. Aloe Vera

You’ve probably heard of using aloe to treat sunburns. It’s also one of the top-recommended home remedies for eczema. Just rub a small amount on any part of your baby’s skin that is red, cracked, or dry.

When applied to your baby’s skin, aloe vera provides moisture and protection against infections. Also, aloe can soothe broken skin and promote healing.

3. Oatmeal Bath

Colloidal oatmeal is another natural remedy for eczema that parents can easily use. The avenanthramides in colloidal oatmeal provide itching and inflammation relief, which can help quickly reduce the majority of your baby’s eczema symptoms. Furthermore, the antiproliferative qualities of oats can help stop the spread of eczema during a flare-up.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends adding colloidal oatmeal to your baby’s bath, but you can also apply it directly to your baby’s skin in a paste formula.

4. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 can also serve as a great home remedy for baby eczema. The research shows that topical application works best, so you'll want to use a lotion or cream containing B12 and apply it directly to the skin.

5. Wet Wrap Therapy

If your baby experiences severe eczema flare-ups, wet wrap therapy can help add additional moisture to your baby’s skin. The team at Healthline recommends doing wet wrap therapy immediately after bath time by applying warm wet cotton clothing or wet gauze to the most affected areas of your baby’s skin for three to eight hours.

6. Humidifiers

Dry air intensifies eczema in babies and toddlers. This issue is usually worse during the winter months but can be an issue anytime. To add moisture into the air, you can run a humidifier in your child’s room.

Just make sure you keep a close eye on the humidity percentage, as moistening the air too much can make mold grow.

7. Avoid Irritants

Sometimes the best remedy for your baby’s eczema is actually proper prevention methods. According to the Mayo Clinic, itchy fabrics, harsh soaps, and temperature extremes can all lead to an eczema outbreak for your baby — all of which are avoidable.

When purchasing onesies and other clothing for your baby, look for items made from organic fabric, like our super soft organic cotton onesies.

Although your baby’s eczema may seem alarming, remember that it’s a fairly common skin condition for little ones and often subsides as they grow. For the time being, though, these natural remedies should provide your baby with some much-needed relief without exposing them to chemicals or prescription ointments.
